The short version: What you write and collect in Motlio stays on your device unless you choose to sign in for backup, and then only your account can read it. We don't run analytics and never sell your entries. The free version shows ads; Motlio Pro removes them.
JesterMedia ("we," "us," or "our") operates Motlio, an iOS and Android app for journaling and keeping collections. This Privacy Policy explains what data the app handles, where it goes, and the choices you have.
Shelves, entries, ratings, notes, dates, places, tags, cover images and photos you add are stored on your device. Photo albums, including the photos in them and the dates and locations those photos were taken, stay on your device and are not backed up.
An account is only needed for backup and sync. If you sign in, Firebase Authentication (Google LLC) stores your email address, your display name if your sign-in provider shares one, and the sign-in methods on your account: Sign in with Apple (iPhone), Google, or email and password. Your shelves, entries and the images attached to them are then copied to Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage for Firebase under your account, so they appear on every device you sign in to.
When you search for an item or scan a barcode, the search text or barcode number is sent to public catalog services to find a title, cover and details: The Movie Database (TMDB), Open Library, Apple's iTunes Search, MusicBrainz and the Cover Art Archive, and UPCitemdb. When you search for a place, the search text is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service, and trip maps load map tiles from OpenStreetMap. These requests don't include your account or your entries. Barcode scanning runs on your device.
The free version of Motlio displays ads through Google AdMob. Google may process your device advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS or the Android advertising ID), ad interactions, and approximate location derived from your IP address to deliver, measure, prevent fraud in, and personalize ads where permitted. Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission and your device advertising settings control whether this tracking is allowed. Denying it does not affect any app features. Motlio Pro removes in-app ads.
Motlio does not include an analytics SDK and does not send your entries, collections or photos to any analytics or advertising service. The Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect diagnostics for ad delivery and reliability.

Data in transit is encrypted with TLS, and Firebase encrypts stored data at rest. Firebase security rules allow each signed-in account to read and write only its own library. No system is guaranteed invulnerable, but we limit access to what the service needs to run.
We do not sell your personal information, and we never share what you write or collect with advertisers. In the free version, advertising identifiers and related data may be shared with Google AdMob as described above.
To delete your account and everything backed up to it, open Settings → Backup & Sync → Delete Account and Cloud Data. This erases your cloud backup and your account right away; entries on your device stay unless you delete the app. To sign out without deleting anything, choose Sign Out on the same screen. If you can't open the app, follow the steps on our account deletion page and we'll delete your account and backup within 30 days.
Motlio is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at support@jestermedia.app and we will delete it promptly.
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland, or another region where consent is required, Google's User Messaging Platform asks for consent before ads use storage or personalization. You can change your choice from Ad Privacy Choices in the app's Settings, and separately change tracking permission in iOS Settings or advertising choices in your Android settings.
Depending on where you live, including under the CCPA/CPRA and VCDPA, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising. Export everything from the app's Settings at any time, or email support@jestermedia.app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post updates here and revise the "Last Updated" date above.
This notice describes the app. Website hosting and optional website analytics are described in the JesterMedia website privacy notice. Website choices do not change app settings. Backed-up data is kept until you delete it or your account; purchase records are kept by Apple or Google. You may contact us to ask about retention, exercise applicable access, correction, deletion or advertising opt-out rights, or appeal our response.
